Henry Machyn's Chronicle
The starting point for this book and a key character was a London merchant taylor and parish clerk called Henry Machyn. He is famous for writing a chronicle or diary, which was originally published by the Camden Society in 1848. A new edition of this work has now been made freely available by the University of Michigan; click here for a link to that site.
For biographical details of Henry Machyn, see Ian Mortimer, ‘Tudor chronicler or sixteenth-century diarist? Henry Machyn and the nature of his manuscript’ Sixteenth Century Journal, 33 (2002), pp. 981-998 (text available here).
